{"id":941,"date":"2017-03-13T07:00:20","date_gmt":"2017-03-13T07:00:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.carrentalinsardinia.com\/blog\/?p=941"},"modified":"2017-03-11T13:33:05","modified_gmt":"2017-03-11T13:33:05","slug":"gallura","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.carrentalinsardinia.com\/blog\/gallura\/","title":{"rendered":"Discovering the Gallura region in Sardinia"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><!--more--><br \/>\nIn this post, we will suggest a very interesting itinerary to discover a world that could fairly compete with the extraordinary beauty of the <a href=\"\/blog\/la-maddalena-caprera-archipelago\/\">Sardinian coastal landscape<\/a>: we are talking about the <strong>Gallura<\/strong>, a region located in the northeast part of the island and characterised by cork trees that miraculously survive the impetuous and uncontrolled force of nature and the \u201cstazzi\u201d (small white houses inhabited by Sardinian shepherds and farmers).<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.carrentalinsardinia.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/gallura-map.jpg\" alt=\"gallura map\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-974\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.carrentalinsardinia.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/gallura-map.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.carrentalinsardinia.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/gallura-map-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"titolo\">Calangianus<\/h2>\n<p>The first place we are going to visit (leaving from the Olbia airport through the SS 127 road) is <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Calangianus\" target=\"_blank\">Calangianus<\/a> famous throughout the world for the processing of cork.<\/p>\n<p>This important agricultural and industrial centre hosts the international cork exhibition (since the first edition in 1978) proving not only the industrial vocation of this small town, but also the international appeal of this activity.<\/p>\n<p>Calangianus hosts also a cork (&#8220;sughero&#8221; in Italian) museum: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.museodelsughero.com\/home\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\">museodelsughero.com<\/a> .<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_955\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-955\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-955 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/www.carrentalinsardinia.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/calangianus-gallura.jpg\" alt=\"calangianus gallura\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.carrentalinsardinia.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/calangianus-gallura.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.carrentalinsardinia.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/calangianus-gallura-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-955\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">A typical granite house in Calangianus<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Located close to the Mount Limbara, this municipality is full of interesting trails and beautiful archaeological sites like the \u201cNuraghe Agnu\u201d and the nuragic spring \u201cLi Paladini\u201d (both in the area of Monte di Deu).<\/p>\n<p>In the locality of Campanadolzu, rich of cork trees, you may find another nuraghe the \u201cNuraghe Sa Pilea\u201d.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"titolo\">Luras<\/h3>\n<p>From Calangianus you can drive to Luras (road SS 127, SP 135 and SP10). Here you can visit the ethnographic museum \u201cGalluras\u201d, a museum dedicated to the faithful reconstruction of the environment typical of the Gallura civilization. <\/p>\n<p>The entire area is appreciable even from an archaeological point of view due to the presence of dolmens (prehistoric megalithic tomb) like the Dolmens of Alzoledda, Bais, Ciuledda and Ladas.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_962\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-962\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.carrentalinsardinia.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/luras-ladas.jpg\" alt=\"ladas dolmen in luras\" width=\"600\" height=\"358\" class=\"size-full wp-image-962\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.carrentalinsardinia.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/luras-ladas.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.carrentalinsardinia.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/luras-ladas-300x179.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-962\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Ladas Dolmen in Luras<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>At 18 Km from Luras you can find the <strong>lake Liscia<\/strong>, an artificial lake created for water supply of the surrounding area, which is well worth a visit for the presence of numerous valleys covered with oaks and holm oaks and the breath-taking view.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_965\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-965\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.carrentalinsardinia.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/lake-liscia-sardinia.jpg\" alt=\"lake liscia sardinia\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" class=\"size-full wp-image-965\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.carrentalinsardinia.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/lake-liscia-sardinia.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.carrentalinsardinia.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/lake-liscia-sardinia-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-965\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The Liscia lake in Luras Sardinia<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h4 class=\"titolo\">Tempio Pausania<\/h4>\n<p>We continue our trip through the SS 133 in order to reach the nearby Tempio Pausania.<\/p>\n<p>Located to the Northwest of \u201cMount Limbara\u201d, <strong>Tempio Pausania<\/strong> was inhabited since Roman times (its name was Gemellae); later it became respectively an important centre of the \u201cGiudicato of Gallura\u201d, a Pisan colony and an important town during the Spanish age.<\/p>\n<p>In Tempio you can visit the city centre with buildings constructed with local granite stone, the Cathedral in the Saint Peter&#8217;s square and the famous \u201cRinaggiu\u201d springs. <\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.carrentalinsardinia.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/tempio-pausania-sardinia.jpg\" alt=\"Saint Peter Cathedral in tempio pausania\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-968\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.carrentalinsardinia.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/tempio-pausania-sardinia.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.carrentalinsardinia.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/tempio-pausania-sardinia-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>For those who love excursions we suggest the following itineraries:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>the route leading to the \u201cnuraghe Maiori\u201d, perfectly preserved.<\/li>\n<li>the climb to the \u201cLimbara\u201d mountain, from which you can see a landscape full of pines and spruces, cork trees, mastic trees and olive trees.<\/li>\n<li>the trail that leads to Punta Balistreri, the highest peak of the \u201cLimbara\u201d mountain.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h5 class=\"titolo\">Aggius<\/h5>\n<p>From Tempio Pausania you can reach in a short time <strong>Aggius<\/strong>, surrounded by a vast landscape of granite and cork.<\/p>\n<p>Aggius is rich with trails that are worth visiting like the \u201cCapitza\u201d park, rich of cork oaks, mastic and arbutus trees and the \u201cValle della Luna\u201d (valley of the moon), characterized by a wide area of rocks and granitic rock masses.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.carrentalinsardinia.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/valle-della-luna-aggius.jpg\" alt=\"valle della luna aggius\" width=\"600\" height=\"399\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-971\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.carrentalinsardinia.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/valle-della-luna-aggius.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.carrentalinsardinia.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/valle-della-luna-aggius-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<h6 class=\"titolo\">What to eat in the Gallura area?<\/h6>\n<p>Do not forget to taste the extraordinary delicacies that Gallura region offers.
