{"id":154,"date":"2019-07-10T08:00:13","date_gmt":"2019-07-10T08:00:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.carrentalinsardinia.com\/blog\/?p=154"},"modified":"2019-07-10T12:25:57","modified_gmt":"2019-07-10T12:25:57","slug":"sardinia-archaeology-sites","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.carrentalinsardinia.com\/blog\/sardinia-archaeology-sites\/","title":{"rendered":"Sardinia Archaeology Sites, Su Nuraxi And The Three Nuraghi Not To Miss"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><!--more-->The beautiful island of Sardinia is home to many historic and <strong>archaeology sites<\/strong>, not least the famous <strong>Nuraghi<\/strong>, wonderful and unique megalithic structures that are remnants of the <strong>Nuragic civilization<\/strong>, a people who occupied the island between 1900 and 730BC.<\/p>\n<p>These amazing constructions represent a mysterious and important culture that once thrived solely on Sardinia, and while there are many thousands of them remaining, no true knowledge has come about as to their original use.<\/p>\n<p>Suggestions include <strong>religious buildings or dwellings<\/strong>, and many of the major examples exist in strategically important places.<\/p>\n<p>There are three Nuraghi which are considered the most important, and it is highly recommended that visitors <a href=\"https:\/\/www.carrentalinsardinia.com\">hire a car<\/a> to travel to each of these completely unique edifices.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"titolo\">Su Nuraxi<\/h2>\n<figure id=\"attachment_1644\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1644\" style=\"width: 900px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1644\" src=\"https:\/\/www.carrentalinsardinia.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/su-nuraxi-sardinia.jpg\" alt=\"su nuraxi sardinia nuraghe\" width=\"900\" height=\"508\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.carrentalinsardinia.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/su-nuraxi-sardinia.jpg 900w, https:\/\/www.carrentalinsardinia.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/su-nuraxi-sardinia-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.carrentalinsardinia.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/su-nuraxi-sardinia-768x433.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-1644\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Su Nuraxi in Barumini<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>Su Nuraxi<\/strong> has the unique distinction of being included in the <strong>UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites<\/strong>, and is an extremely important example.<\/p>\n<p>The site (dating back to the 14th century BC) includes not just the nuraghe but the remains of a once-important settlement, and lies to the town of <strong>Barumini<\/strong>. It is thought that this example was originally intended as a fortress as it lies in a strategic position.<\/p>\n<p>It is possible to visit the archaeological area of Su Nuraxi every day from 9.00 am only with a tour guide for security reasons. From there, remain on the SS131 for the remainder of the beautiful route through the Sardinian countryside until reaching the Nuraghe Losa, a journey of little more than 110km and approximately one
